Taylor, 25-year-old mortarman for Weapons Co., 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, Regimental Combat Team 1, and native of Portland, Ore., scans the iris of an Iraqi male before allowing him to enter the city. The basic information gathered at the battalion's entry control points, allows the Marines to identify every military-aged male in the city.
