그리스 신화에는 저승에 관한 이야기가 자주 나오는데, 저승에는 한 번 건너면 살아서는 다시 건너올 수 없는 ‘스틱스(Styx) 강’이 있다고 한다. 1950년대에 대함 미사일 개발에 착수했던 소련은 1957년 10월 시험발사에 성공한 후 이 대함 미사일을 ‘P-15’(사거리 95km)라고 명명했다.

미국은 소련이 신형 대함 미사일 개발에 성공한 것을 알아냈으나 그 이름까지는 확인할 수 없었다. 하지만 이 미사일 한 방이면 미국 함정에 탄 모든 이들이 저승으로 갈 수 있다고 보고 이를 ‘스틱스’라고 명명했다. 소련은 중동전쟁 때 이스라엘과 갈등을 빚어온 이집트측에 이 미사일을 제공했다.

소련제 ‘스틱스’ 무시무시한 명성

제3차 중동전쟁 직후인 1967년 10월21일 이집트 해군은 이 미사일 세 발을 발사해 사이드 항에 있던 이스라엘의 에일라트(Eilat) 구축함을 격침시켰는데, 이것은 대함 미사일에 의해 대형 함정이 격침된 세계 최초의 사건이다. 1971년 인도 해군은 파키스탄 유조선을 향해 이 미사일을 발사했고, 이란-이라크 전쟁 때는 이라크가 이란 함선을 향해 이 미사일을 발사해 큰 피해를 주었다. 이러한 일련의 사건을 통해 스틱스는 명성을 떨치기 시작했다.

중동전에서 스틱스가 명성을 떨치기 전인 1959년 중국은 소련으로부터 P-15 제조기술을 도입해 생산에 들어갔다. 그리고 이 과정에서 축적한 기술을 토대로 1974년 ‘해응(海鷹)-1’ ‘비룡(飛龍)-1’로 명명한 독자적인 대함 미사일을 개발했다. 그러나 이 미사일 이름을 몰랐던 미국은 중국이 비단 생산국으로 유명한 것에 착안해, 이 미사일을 ‘실크 웜(Silk Worm)’이라고 불렀다.

스틱스나 실크웜은 길이 6.5~7.4m에 무게 2500kg인 비교적 작은 미사일이다. 스틱스 제조기술을 넘겨준 소련은 같은 해 ‘오사’와 ‘코마’라고 불리는 두 종류의 고속정 건조기술도 중국에 전수했다. 중국은 오사급을 모방해 170t짜리 후앙펜급 고속정을, 코마급을 모방해 75t짜리 고속정을 개발하고(함정명은 확인되지 않음) 여기에 실크 웜을 탑재했다.

The development coast antiship complex "boundary" was begun in 1970 on the base of ship complex P -15M "thermite". By the resolution CM № 853-875 of 22 October, 1978, complex "boundary" was adopted to the armament.



The twin launcher of this complex KT -161 on the chassis of cross-country vehicle MACE -543M is completely autonomous machine.
