1. RST-V: The Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Targeting Vehicle (RST-V) is a joint Marine Corps/ONR/DARPA/General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) advanced technology demonstrator program initiated in 1997 to demonstrate the potential of hybrid electric drive technology, integrated survivability and V-22 aircraft internal transportability. It¡¯s being evaluated to serve as a utility carrier, prime mover, and electrical generator for various Marine Corps applications. (GDLS photo.)
3. Staff Sergeant Philip Ingram from the 16th Ordinance Battalion tests new flexible arm and leg protective armor at the Army Research Laboratory's (ARL) mobility/portability course at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Md. The Office of Naval Research (ONR) and researchers from the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) developed the armor for use by Marines and soldiers to reduce the likelihood of severe injuries by protecting against the large number of smaller blast fragments generated by blast weapons and improvise explosive devices (IED's). NRL, ARL, FS Technology and Oklahoma State University produced the design. (U.S. Navy photograph by John F. Williams)
