The Curtiss P-5 was another variant of the basic P-1. The most significant difference between the original P-1 and the P-5 was the addition of a turbo-supercharger to the basic V-1150 engine. Designed for higher altitudes, the P-5 was fitted with a cockpit heater, enlarged propeller and landing gear. The first of 5 P-5s ordered (S/N 27-327 through 27-331) was delivered to Wright Field in January 1928. Two P-5s continued in service with the 94th Pursuit Squadron until April 1932.
