초대 워싱톤으로부터 44대 오바마 대통령까지의 거의 대부분의 미국 대통령의 민족별 분류입니다. 혼혈의 경우 그 혼혈 내용까지 간략 정리되어 있습니다. 잉글랜드계 단독 조상의 대통령 빈도는 줄어들고 있고, 혼혈이 다수가 되어가고 있습니다. 5대 대통령 먼로, 7대 앤드류 잭슨, 아이젠하워, 케네디등 몇만 빼고는 정리되어 있습니다. 먼로의 경우는 버지니아 지주 출신으로 조지워싱턴과 함께 독립전쟁에 참전한 경력으로 보아 잉글랜드계 단독일 확률이 높습니다. 아래 펌에서 빠진 몇 대통령의 가계중 아이젠하워와 케네디는 별로도 검색했습니다.

미국에서 민족 분류가 얼마나 어려운 일인지 미국 역대 대통령들의 혼혈을 보면 알게 됩니다.

대표적인 아일랜드계인 케네디, 대표적인 독일계인 아이젠하워, 흑인계인 오바마, 위대한 2명의 네덜란드계 루즈벨트 대통령까지 케네디를 제외하면 그들 모두는 잉글랜드계와의 혼혈입니다. 초창기에는 혼혈이 2 민족 정도였지만, 후대로 내려오면서 완전히 비빔밥이 되고 있습니다. 아래는 펌한 자료중에서 6명과 별도로 검색한 아이젠하워와 케네디입니다. 아버지 부시와 아들 부시 대통령 역시 전형적인 비빔밥 가계입니다. 부시가는 특히 정복왕 윌리엄의 노르만 정복 당시 참전했던 귀족의 후손이기도 합니다. 아일랜드계로 알려진 클린턴은 잉글랜드계와의 2민족 혼혈이며 로널드 레이건은 3민족 혼혈이군요. 좁은 섬이라는 지형적 조건 때문에 잉글랜드, 스코틀랜드, 웨일즈, 아일랜드계 모두는 오랜 기간의 혼혈로 인해 정서상의 차이점에 크게 미치지 못하는 유전적 차이일 수도 있습니다.

영어식으로 rose garden 장미정원이라는 의미의 네덜란드 성을 가진 루즈벨트가의 2 대통령 가계 역시 복잡한 혼혈입니다.

저런 상황에서 독일계가 잉글랜드계 보다 인구가 2배 많다는 것은 무의미한 주장입니다. 아이리쉬계중 많은 사람들은 잉글리쉬와의 혼혈이면서 아이리쉬라고 답했을 가능성이 적지 않습니다. 잉글랜드계의 거의 절반은 자신의 조상을 잉글랜드계라고 생각하지 않고 미국을 건국했던 american이라고 답하는 현실 때문에 잉글랜드계가 1980년 인구센서스 4900만에서 2000년 센서스 2400만으로 줄어든 것 같은 착시 현상이 나타난 겁니다.

잉글랜드계를 인구수에서 2배 압도하고, 수준이 더 높은 독일계라고 주장하면서 미국의 역대 대통령 거의 모두가 잉글랜드계 단독 또는 잉글랜드계와의 혼혈임을 설명할 길은 없는 겁니다. 정말 인구수에서 2배이면서도 저런 현실이라면 독일계 후손들이 미국내에서 제대로 정착하지 못하고 겉돌고 있다는 것이겠지요. 정말 독일계가 헛바뀌 돌면서 미국의 주변부만 맴돌고 있습니까? 그렇지 않음이 분명하다면, 역으로 독일계가 잉글랜드계의 2배라는 것이 착시, 통계 조사의 허상이라고 판단해야 합니다.

아이젠하워는 1890년 10월 14일에 "드와이트 데이비드 아이젠하워" 라는 이름으로 텍사스 주 데니슨에서 데이비드 제이콥 아이엔하워와 아이다 엘리자베스 스토버 사이의 일곱 아들 중 셋째로 태어났다. 그의 집안은 독일, 영국, 스위스에 뿌리를 두고 있다. 그의 가족은 캔자스 주의 애빌린으로 이사를 갔고, 그는 그 곳에서 자랐다.^[1]
