General George Smith Patton: b. November 11, 1885 d, December 21, 1945

It is a coincidence that Patton was born on the day that later became America's Veteran's Day (formerly Armistice Day following WWI) but, completely appropriate. After a lifetime in the military, he was paralyzed from the neck down in a car accident in Germany on December 9, 1945 -- one day before he was to return to the United States after the end of WWII. With his wife at his side, he died of an embolism on December 21, 1945. His remains were interred -- along with those of the soldiers of his last command, who died in service to their country -- at the Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial in Hamm, Luxembourg.
