Chaplains at the Naval Medical Center San Diego are offering grief counseling today to colleagues and friends of Navy Lt. Florence Bacong Choe, killed by an insurgent attack in Afghanistan.

Choe, 35, was serving as a medical administration and logistics mentor to the Afghan national army at a base in Mazar-i-Sharif in Afghanistan. Her permanent assignment was at the San Diego hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Lt. Cmdr. Chong ¡°Jay¡± Choe, a urology resident at the hospital, and their 3-year-old daughter, Kristin Choe.

Choe and a second Navy officer were fatally wounded by an insurgent posing as an Afghan soldier. The attacker killed himself, officials said.
