The criteria to find an ally

When you are looking for a military ally just on the brink of war, only the following things should be the criteria.

- Whether the potential ally has capabilities to help us in the military respects

- Whether the ally is really determined to fight against our enemy

Besides, the survival in the war is more important than any other things. If we don’t survive in the war, there will be nothing in future.

France and UK are well-known enemies each other for a long time. But, they became strong allies during the Second World War against Germany. Later, France betrayed UK. But, at the time of way there was no other choice for both.

US well recognized Soviet as the biggest enemy after the Second World War. But, there was no other choice except supporting Soviet in military respects at the time of war.

Taliban was an alley of US in the war against Soviet in spite of the fact that US does not like Islamic fundamentalists. Now, US is making every effort to eliminate Taliban.

Anyway, during the war against Soviet US had no other choice except using Taliban to get rid of Soviet in Afghanistan.

Presently the only way for the North Korea to attack Korea by the nuclear weapons is to deliver them by IL-28, which can reach Seoul just within 6 minutes. Therefore, absolutely complete and unquestionable mastery of air is required.

The former President Jun occupied all important authorities in Seoul just with 500 soldiers in 1979 within 5 hours.

The presence of over 100,000 specially trained special forces of the North Korea is therefore a serious threat to Seoul.

We need Japan, not because Japan would be our alley for a long time, but just because presently the North Korea is the critical enemy for both, and Japan would be a great help to Korea in military respects.

Since when Japan considered North Korea as 'Critical enemy?' Plus, IL-28 does not have a capability to fly for 6 minutes without being detected and shoot down. At the moment IL-28 takes off the airfield, Korea Air Force will begin to prepare for shooting it down, unless otherwise not necessary. Japan has prepared for its defense only without the ability or capability in either legally or physically to attack from/to another country/ies. Plus, the matter of military alliance with Japan is not as simple as you think. Our position on the topic of a war against N. Korea does not require us to consider whether we can win against N. Korea or not. Rather, we are simply trying to minimize the consequences of a war such as destruction of industrial basis, death of civilians, N.Korean refugees, and the loss of our past effort for peaceful unification. Simply, Japan is not the answer and if it is, then it is worst answer you can possibly think of.

"Absolute mastery of air"? 말을 참 예쁘게 하시는군요. 하지만 어떻게? 그런 북한의 기습공격에 일본의 항공력이 대응한답니까? 단시간만에? 어디서? 현해탄 건너 츠키와 뉴따바루의 녀석들이요? 상시 배치나, 긴급 증원식의 배치가 아니면 힘들고, 일본이 남부의 방공력을 스스로 약화시키면서 한국의 방공을 강화할 것이란 생각은 왠지 하나도 들지 않는군요.

Do you think that the Japanese would appreciate it if it happens that some Korean Army, Marine, and Air Force go to japan and be the stationary troops in place of some U.S. force migrating to Afganistan? Will the Japanese people be happy to see Korean fighter planes and Marines near Tokyo?

You missed the most important criteria, here it is:
- "how much can we believe them?"

Basically, the Japanese force is no better than the Chinese in this respect.

You said history, so let's see history.
France and UK were ally in many scenes in their history.
Russia and the U.S. were did, too.
Korea and Japan were NEVER did. And we were always enemies. We cannot believe the Japanese.
Maybe Iran and Iraq would be more friendly then we are.

If you are a Japanese, you need to read some books on history of the two country.
If you are an American, imagine why the Confederacy didn't ally with the Maxicans during the Civil War.

Finally, the most prominent and basic defect of your suggestion is this:
Because the Republic of Korea will NOT declare war first,
Seoul cannot be protected by some addition of Japanese air force. (You told this in your first posting)
And because we don't know when the North attack us,
the deployment of Japanese force would be prolonged, then would become a stationing.

So the Japanese force in Korea will be useless to protect Seoul. Then why should we invite them?
No kidding! And we have more choices then you think.

in case of dprk's attack on Republic of Korea, Rok thinks about absorbing Dprk.
In doing so,if there is China's opening belligerency on Rok.Option Japan may reach its place on operation table of Rok.otherwise Rok alone can bring dprk under control.

former president Jun's case is absolutely akward example because he obtained Rok's military first of all before doing so.

and dprk's nuclear is being thwarfed by it's enemy's counterpart.

동북아에서 미국이 떨어져 나간 미래 어느시기..우리 한국이 일본하고 동맹 보단도 러시아가 100배는 낫습니다....일본은 지금도 ..아마 그 미래에도 군사적 약체를 면치 못할검니다.. 일본이 돈은 많고(그런데 정부 부채는 세계 최대)...민간 기업 발달한것 외에 뭐가 있던가요??..
러시아를 보자면..국토넓이 세계1위 , 부존자원 세계1위..군사력이 세계2위...우주 항공 원자력 등해서 세계2위.........동맹 해서 손잡으려면 이런 나라 하고 해야 실리가 큰법 입니다..
근본적으로 우리 보다 군사력이 약한 나라 하곤 동맹 추진 해야 하는 가치가 없지요..

According to the "Diplomacy" written by Henry Kissinger, the reasons U.K and France made alliance against Germany were first, they considered that Germany was or would be more powerful than U.K and France respectively, second the power between U.K and France didn't have big difference. Third, no other power than Germany opposed the U.K-France alliance at that time. On the contrary, Each of R.O.K and Japan is more powerful than North Korea. There is a huge power gap between R.O.K and Japan(Japan's GDP is 6 times larger than Korean's). Also, not only China but also Russia would oppse the R.O.K-Japan military alliance.

If China does not want the ally between Korea and Japan, China should immediately exert a strong influence on the North Korea such as stopping oil supply to North Korea to completely get rid of the nuclear weapon program of the North Korea.
China can simply do it, but, does not do. China is actually supporting the North Korea’s nuclear program to keep 2 million military forces against Korea, Japan and US by the cheapest way.
