The performance of India's Defense Research & Development Organization (DRDO) was reviewed recently by the government. The leaked results of a government report were critical, finding that the DRDO's claims often are exaggerated and that some development projects are well beyond its capabilities. A military commanders' conference in New Delhi also concluded that the DRDO must get its act together instead of delivering too little, too late.

Of 39 projects, only four are said to be progressing and at least 16 are behind schedule.
Almost half of the 39 are categorized as technology demonstrators. Chief of Army Staff Gen. J.J. Singh called the DRDO ventures a "mixed bag of successes." He cited the Nishant unmanned aerial vehicle, the Pinaka and Nag anti-tank missiles, the Anamika missile carrier and nuclear-biological-chemical protective equipment as successful DRDO programs. However, the Arjun main battle tank, being built indigenously by DRDO, has been a long, drawn-out project. It was initiated way back in 1974, and its General Staff Qualitative Requirement was completed in 1985. Singh said, "We've placed a demand for 124 tanks, which we hope to receive in two to three years' time."

Arjun 탱크는 길게 늘어진 프록젝트 였다고... 1974년에 시작되어 1985년도에
완료, 124대를 주문하면서, 2~3년내 인도를 예상했었다고...(아직도 긑나지
않았다는 의미?)
