미국 본토에 있는 현용 미육군 10개 사단입니다.

(따로 발제를 해볼 생각인데 상기 10개 사단외에 아래 지도 좌측에 표시된 독립여단이 4개 더 있습니다. 다들 너무 잘 아시겠지만

미군 편제상 단어가 '사단','여단'으로 표기되어 있지 우리가 알고 있는 우리기준의 그런 사단, 여단과는 화력면에서 차이가 있습니다)



지도사진은 현용 미육군 10개 사단과 4개 독립여단이 표시되어 있습니다.

병력의 편제축소와 이동이 있기 때문에 위치나 숫자가 정확하지는 않습니다.

참고로 대충 이렇구나 정도로 봐주시면 될 것 같습니다.

 






잘 알고 계시듯이 미육군은 사단에서 여단중심으로 편제가 바뀌고 있고

여단도 규모가 축소편제되고 있는 중입니다.

그림간의 제작시기와 정책의 변화로 인해 실제와 다소 차이가 날 수 있다는 걸 감안하고

큰 그림에서 참고용으로 보시면 되겠습니다.







Ⅱ. 공중강습사단

 제101공중강습사단 (101st Airborne Division)

 

 

1. 개괄 

 




우리에게 미국 HBO사의 드라마 Band of Brothers 로 유명해진

제101 공중강습사단입니다.

 

 

1918년 미시시피 Camp Shelby에 본부가 조직되고

2차대전 당시 공수사단으로 편성되었다가

 1968년 공중기동사단으로, 1974년 공중강습사단으로 재편됩니다. 

 

공수교육도 기본으로 이수하는 병력이라

우리기준에는 특수전 병력으로 볼 수 도 있지만

엄연히 정규전 병력입니다.

 

상황발생시 전세계 어디든 36시간내로 전개 가능하도록 준비가 되어있다고 합니다

Air Raids 에어 레이드(공중 공격)
      항공기를 이용한 대지상공격을 말하는 단어이다. 독자적인 공격헬기대대를 보유한 101사단의 경우,
      항공공격제대를 통해 강습에 장애가 되는 적 시설및 부대를 타격할 역량을 갖추었다.
Air Maneuver 에어 메뉴버(공중 기동)
      전투기등 항공기의 경우 교전 및 공중기동을 나타내는 말이나 일반적으로는
      공중기동 말그대로 항공기를 이용한 신속한 병력배치를 말한다.
      수송헬기를 독자적으로 보유한 101사단은 병력을 필요로 하는 곳은 어디든 헬기에 실어 어디든 신속하게 배치할 수 있다.
Air Assault 에어 어썰트(공중 강습)
      헬기, 공수를 이용한 병력의 투하를 이용한 강습공격을 뜻하는 단어이다.
      대부분의 에어본 부대들이 수행하는 임무이며,
      101사단의 경우 헬기를 이용한 강습도 가능하지만 수송기를 이용한 강하공수를 통한 작전역량도 지니고 있다.
Theater Entry 시어터 엔트리(전구 진입)
      가장 번역하기 애매할텐데, Theater 란 군사용어로 전구(戰區)란 의미를 지니고 있다.
      즉 할당 전투지역에 선두로 가장 먼저 진입하여
      교두보및 작전거점을 확보하고 적을 구축하는 선봉의 역할을 맡는 것이다.
      이를 위해 위와같은 가공할 화력과 기동장비들을 보유한 것이다.


























가슴에 계급장으로 봐서는 specialist 의 acu로 보입니다.

미육군 규정상 (Army Regulation 670-1)

좌측어깨에 현재 소속부대 패치를 부착하고

오른쪽어깨는 이전 파병시 (Former Wartime Service)소속 부대패치를 부착 할 수 있도록 되어있다고 합니다.

4사단 소속으로 파병갔던 대원이 현재101공중강습사단에 배속되어있는 것으로 보입니다.

 

 



2. 주둔지 - Fort Campbell, Kentucky, U.S.



 













켄터키 Fort Campbell은 제101공수사단의 근거지이자

하단의 병력들이 기지내에 묻어서 얹혀 살고 있고

 

total size of 102,414 acres (414 km2), and billets for 2,422 officers and 45,198 enlisted personnel의 규모가 큰 기지입니다.

참고로 서울의 면적은 605.25 Km2 입니다.

마. 101 CAB (101st Combat Aviation Brigade)  "Wings of Destiny"  전투항공여단    

 

Air assault division aviation brigade. The primary mission of the air assault division aviation brigade is to deploy worldwide on short notice; plan, coordinate, and execute aviation operations as an integrated element of an air assault combined arms team; and find, fix, and destroy enemy forces in joint, combined, or unilateral operations. The air assault division aviation brigade is composed of a brigade HHC; one divisional cavalry squadron; one CH-47 helicopter battalion; three AHBs; one command aviation battalion (CAB); and three ATKHBs.

(a) The air assault division reconnaissance squadron consists of an HHT; an AVUM troop; and four ACTs. The four ACTs will be equipped with 8 OH-58D (I) each.

(b) The air assault division CH-47 helicopter battalion consists of an HHC and 3 CH-47 helicopter companies with 16 CH-47Ds in each company.

(c) The air assault division's three AHBs each consist of an HHC; an AVUM company; and three assault helicopter companies (AHCs) with 15 UH-60s in each company. The limited assets of the support aviation company in the CAB will require the assault companies to perform utility missions as well.

 

(d) The air assault division CAB consists of an HHC; an AVUM company; two CACs with eight UH-60s and four EH-60s each; and a support aviation company (SAC) with eight UH-60s.

(e) The air assault division's three ATKHBs each consist of an HHC; an AVUM company; and three ATKHCs equipped with eight AH-64 attack aircraft each.

(f) DISCOM supports the aviation brigade with an AVIM battalion. The AVIM battalion has no organic aircraft.

(g) Utility helicopter support. The aviation brigade commander is the primary integrator of aviation within the division. The CAB supports the division as well as the aviation brigade. Utility aircraft support the attack battalions, cavalry squadron, and the CH-47 battalion; the attached AVIM battalion will come from the CAB and the assault battalion. The brigade staff will routinely plan for utility support from the CAB and the assault battalion to the attack battalions, reconnaissance squadron, and CH-47 battalion. In addition, the brigade commander will ensure programs are established that reinforce collective training proficiency between the CAB and assault battalion and the units they are required to support.

바. 101st DIVARTY (Division Artillery )"Guns of Glory" 사단 포병

 

우리의 상식으로 공중강습사단이니까 개인무장만 갖춘 다수의 보병만을

헬기로 실어나르는 보병사단이겠거니 생각하기 쉬운데

각종 야포도 헬기로 실어 배달합니다.

사실 한반도에 국한된 작전반경을 생각하면 굳이 위험부담을 지고 야포까지

헬기로 실어나를 필요가 있을까 싶은데

국토가 넓어 작전반경이 우리가 생각하는 이상의 지역을

주무대로 활동하는 미군에게는 너무도 당연한 개념인듯합니다. 

 


 















































사. 101st Sustainment Brigade "Lifeliners" 군수지원여단 

 

미군 FM상으로는 Sustainment Brigade 의 역할에 대해서

자세하게 기술되어 있습니다.

100p 이상되는 분량이라 그걸 설명하기에 제가 너무 미천하여

간략하게 사단내 헌병, 공병, 군수 등 기타 잡다한 지원을 담당한다고

참고로 밴드오브브라더스의 주인공인 제4여단 소속이었던 506보병연대는  

여단 축소계획에 따라 2014년 4월 25일 현용에서 빠지게 됩니다.  

현재 506연대의 전통은 제1대대가 1여단에 배속되고,  

제2대대가 3여단에 배속되어 이어지고 있습니다. 

 

As part of the Army-wide reduction of brigade combat teams, 4th Brigade Combat Team "Currahee", 101st Airborne Division was inactivated on 25 April 2014.

Presently, the 506th Infantry Regiment legacy continues through its infantry battalions, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, who maintain the regimental colors, and 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment serve within the 101st Airborne Division.
