This position was outlined by the Director of National Intelligence, Daniel Coates, in a written introduction
to the hearings on the Intelligence Committee of the Senate of the US Congress.
The United States believes that Russia in 2019 will make particular progress in modernizing its air defense
systems, electronic warfare (EW) and submarines, Coates said.
"According to our estimates, Russia will continue to modernize its armed forces, but in particular it will
achieve progress in the sphere of air defense, submarines and EW facilities," he argued.
